Die zweite Generation des Ford Kuga wurde 2011 als Ford Escape auf der LA Autoshow vorgestellt. Die Europa-Premiere des Modells war 2012 auf dem Autosalon in Genf, im März 2013 ist die offizielle Markteinführung in Deutschland.
